The Father of Modern Dentistry

 In News

Have you ever thought of living in a world without dentists? What do you think would happen if the field of dentistry was never developed? Although dentistry has been around since the early civilizations, with constant development, the materials used before are no longer useful in today’s world. Fortunately, Pierre Fauchard was born and because of him, people today are living through modern dentistry.

Pierre Fauchard, a French physician, published “The Surgeon Dentist, A Treatise on Teeth” (Le Chirurgien Dentiste) in 1728. He is recognized as the “Father of Modern Dentistry” because his book was the first to describe a comprehensive system for the practice of dentistry. Included in his book are the oral anatomy and function, denture construction, operative and restorative dental methods. Also, his book contained a document about sugar derivative like tartaric acid, which is responsible for tooth decay.

Dr.Pierre Fauchard was a genius and his theories up until this day pioneer many dental procedures including oral and maxillofacial surgery. He also pioneered dental prosthesis, and also invented his own dental instrument. Not to mention, he introduced the concept of the dental chair light. Moreover, the book “Treaties Operative Dentistry” that was published in two volumes was credited as a standard dental text.

Without Pierre Fauchard, modern dentistry would not have come to fruition. Today, we can offer the best dental services because someone like Pierre Fauchard led us into creating a world with healthier and better smiles.
