At Aurora Dental Studio, we know that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. When we’re talking about you maintaining good oral health, we’re talking about preventative dentistry. It’s that aspect of dentistry that works to make sure your gums and teeth are their healthiest, at all times. Daily brushing with fluoride and flossing is an essential part of preventative dentistry, but at Aurora Dental Studio, we have some in-office services that are also essential to establishing and maintaining the best health possible for your teeth and gums.
You need a dental check-up once or twice a year, complete with x-rays and an oral examination from your dentist at Aurora Dental Studio. X-rays can pick up small problems before they turn into big ones. Sometimes, infections don’t cause severe tooth pain but can be discovered by x-rays revealing pockets of infection or cysts. Another must-do is routine professional teeth cleaning, which we recommend doing two times per year, at a minimum.
Your teeth accumulate plaque daily, and even though you remove that plaque through daily brushing and flossing, it’s still possible that with spotty or inconsistent oral habits, plaque can build up into tartar. Although some plaque can be removed at home, it takes a dentist or dental hygienist to remove it fully. If plaque extends below the gum line, it can be removed with a tool called a tooth scaler.
Brush twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Make sure to change out your toothbrush at least twice per year. Gently brush your tongue daily. The germs that cause bad breath love to hide in all the little crevices and nooks on your tongue’s surface. Always seek professional help if your gums bleed. Bleeding gums are a cardinal sign of gingivitis, a severe but reversible gum disease.
